We are delighted to announce that our man Jack Simpson has been selected in the CPL- U Sports Canada Draft by FC Valour of the Canadian Premier League.

Jack, of Falkirk, Stirlingshire is currently starring for Cape Breton University in Nova Scotia having joined them from our Sporting Futures USA Program back in August 2017.

It’s been a success laden two years in Canada for the former Heart of Midlothian FC and Hamilton FC starlet after we convinced him to try his luck away from Scottish football.

He has racked up a clutch of honours for Cape Breton University including back to back AUS (Atlantic University Sports) Championships in addition to the U Sports Canada National Title in 2017, and is clearly reaping the rewards and recognition that is coming his way.

His stellar performances at this years Canadian National Championship caught the eye of FC Valour Manager Rob Gale and he has since followed up his interest by selecting Jack in the Canadian Premier League Draft.

Jack will be signed to a professional development contract, which will allow him to complete his university studies with Cape Breton University, whilst at the same time allowing him to attend training camps and compete during the summer season with his new club. Upon completion of his University career, Jack can then make the move permanent and go on to represent FC Valour in the Canadian Premier League on a full-time professional contract.

The CPL-U SPORTS Draft formally took place Monday, Nov. 12 following the conclusion of the 2018 U SPORTS Men’s Soccer Championship in Vancouver, with the Canadian Premier League’s founding clubs making 21 total selections over three rounds, picking players to receive an invite to their respective club’s preseason camp.

FC Valour are based in Winnipeg and will play their home matches in the magnificent Investors Group Field, home of the iconic Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It is already considered one of the finest football facilities in the country and established itself as one of Canada’s top soccer stadiums during the 2015 Women’s World Cup where the facility earned rave reviews for both functionality and atmosphere.

Sporting Futures David Binnie commented: “I was absolutely thrilled to hear news that Jack was selected by FC Valour in the CPL Draft. It is fantastic recognition for Jack and is fully deserved given his commitment to progressing his career oversea’s in Canada.”

“Jack is a highly talented player, but his career was stalling back here in Scotland despite early success representing Scotland at youth international level along with an academy career at Heart of Midlothian FC and Hamilton Academical FC. After much persuasion on my part, Jack took my advice and committed his future to Dean Morley at Cape Breton University in Nova Scotia.”

“He, quite literally, hasn’t looked back and in many way’s his decision to get away from the Scottish football scene has been vindicated by the opportunity he now has to continue his career at professional level in the Canadian Premier League.”

“I am delighted for Jack and remain confident that he will go on to have a fantastic professional career in the game.”
