He wears the Number ‘0’ on his back……But Lenny Wilson is undisputed Number 1 in the Big East Conference.
Sending your Goalkeeper out onto the field with a ‘0’ on his back is a quirk unique to the world of American College Soccer. You’d have to hope that your main man between the white posts has the mentality to handle being named a ‘Zero’ before each match kicks off.
Our big Scottish Goalkeeper in New York, Lenny Wilson, is certainly proving that you can go from ‘Zero to Hero’ in the U.S College Soccer game.
Lenny was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on the back of a terrific week between the posts with his St. John’s University team as they saw off Conference foe’s Butler University by 2-0 with the big Scotsman playing a vital role in the clean sheet.
The senior from Aberdeen, Scotland, made four saves on the evening, three of which came in the second half, to post his third shutout in his last four appearances. The Hartwick transfer ranks second in the BIG EAST in goals against average (0.63) and third in save percentage (.826).
SFGK’s David Binnie commented: “It was fantastic to hear that Lenny had been named as the Big East Conference Goalkeeper of the Week. It’s one of the highest levels of NCAA Division I Soccer to compete at and Lenny is showing that he is at the top of his game as he enters in his final (senior year) season in the college game.”
“I know he has ambitions of playing professionally after the completion of his college career and by picking up major honours like this one, he is putting himself in a great position to be snapped up.”
“Everyone here at Sporting Futures Goalkeeping is extremely proud of his achievements.”
