We are incredibly proud of the achievements our Student Athletes in the United States College System. For some, winning a National Championship has been the ultimate honour. For others, simply completing their four years and graduating with their degree is the biggest achievement of their lives.
We have taken the opportunity below to highlight just a few of our successful Student Athletes and we hope that you will enjoy reading about their journeys and their experiences in the United States.
Jack Donaldson | Hartwick College | New YorkSF USA Class of 2013
Jack, of Renfrewshire, Scotland is one of our major successes. The former Glasgow Rangers and Stirling Albion Youth joined top NCAA DII Team – Mars Hill University on a soccer scholarship back in 2013 and played in 30 games making 27 starts with three goals and four assists for the North Carolina based program.
Jack’s success in North Carolina helped him win a transfer to NCAA Division I – Hartwick College in New York, where he teamed up with three other SF USA Players.
Jack has been mainstay of the Hartwick Hawks midfield and his tough, combative style has helped the team to their 2nd successive Sun Belt Conference Championship and an appearance in the NCAA DI National Tournament. Along the way, Jack’s stellar performances has seen him named to the Sun Belt Conference Second Team selection. He was named Sun Belt Defensive Student Athlete of the Week (10/3) & started in 18 games for the Hawks, playing in over 1,600 minutes.
Jack will graduate Hartwick in the summer of 2016 with a degree in Mathematics and Chemistry and underpins everything that it takes to be known as a top Student Athlete.
Simon Doherty |California State University Bakersfield | CaliforniaSF USA Class of 2012
Simon, of West Lothian, Scotland was recruited by Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey from our SF USA Class of 2012 after some impressive displays in our showcase events. He had been a prolific goalscorer for Cowdenbeath FC’s Youth Academy and continued his form in the States, scoring on his debut for the FDU Knights. Simon moved on after his sophomore year and joined the California State University Bakersfield where he has spent two terrific years, scoring some great goals in the Western Athletic Conference.
Simon will graduate in the summer of 2016.
Tom Moody | Lindsey Wilson College | KentuckySF USA Class of 2011
Tom is a former England College’s National Team player and joined our program back in 2011. His talent on the left wing stood him apart on his assessment day at Bisham Abbey and we instantly knew that we had a precocious talent on our hands. We recommended him to Ray Well’s all conquering Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky and Tom started his career in the States with a season that no-one could have predicted.
Tom played his part in his sides remarkable charge towards the NAIA National Championship title; a feat they achieved with a perfect season, sweeping all before them with a 100% win record.
Tom’s finest moment came with the game winning goal in over-time against their biggest rivals, University of Rio Grande, having levelled up the game with thirteen seconds on the clock (See above).
Tom became our first National Champion and remains one of our biggest successes.
Jordan Sinclair | University of Mobile | AlabamaSF USA Class of 2015
Jordan joined the University of Mobile in Alabama from our Class of 2015, and has enjoyed a remarkably successful freshman year with the men’s soccer program.At the end of the Fall Season, Jordan was named as the Southern States Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year in addition to being named as the Conference Freshman of the Year.

- One of only three players to start all 19 games
A technically gifted centre back, Jordan was a product of the Dundee United FC Academy and clearly has a big future ahead of him in the United States.
Nathan Dean | Elon University | North CarolinaSF USA Class of 2011
Nathan, of Rainfall, Merseyside, graduated from NCAA Division I – Elon University in North Carolina back in the summer of 2015 with a degree in Economics.
A product of Manchester City FC’s Academy, the talented goalkeeper made the decision to take his career Stateside in 2011 and it all worked out brilliantly for him on and off the field.
Nathan quickly took over the gloves from current Toronto FC Goalkeeper, Clint Irwin, and established himself as the Elon Pheonix’s No.1. He would go on to break the programs shut-out record in his final season, with nine clean sheets, taking his career total to twenty five.
Nathan earned first team All-SoCon donors and was named to the NSCAA Scholar Academic All-American. In addition, Nathan was twice selected as the SoCon’s Player of the Week and was tabbed as the league’s Student-Athlete of the Week on a number of occasions.
The team flourished in front of Nathan’s goal and won conference championships in three of his four seasons with him in the nets.
Away from the soccer field, Nathan proved himself to be a brilliant student, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA, a Degree in Economics. His successful internship with Multi National Organisation AIG led to a job offer upon his graduation and Nathan now resides and works in New York City.
The very epitome of the phrase – Student Athlete.

Six of the Very Best – Our Magnificent Team of National Champions.
in the Fall of 2015, the University of Maine Fort Kent travelled to North Carolina and captured the USCAA National Championship in a thrilling penalty shoot-out.
The fact that they did so with no fewer than six of our Student Athletes in the starting XI, makes everyone at Sporting Futures USA extremely proud.

Lewis Ellis | Southern Illinois University | IllinoisSF USA Class of 2011
Lewis, a native of Cardiff, Wales joined our program in 2011 and after showing up well in our Winter Showcase Event he was recruited on a full soccer scholarship to the University of Memphis in Tennessee. Two successful years later, Lewis moved on to join fellow NCAA Division I program – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
It proved to be a fantastic move for Lewis and he picked up the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in his time with the Cougars.
Lewis graduated in the summer of 2015 with a Degree in Psychology before moving to Sweden, where he signed a full-time professional contract with Bodes BK.
Ross Alexander | Grand View University | IowaSF USA Class of 2011
Ross Alexander graduated in the summer of 2015 as the captain of Grand View University in Iowa and can justifiably look back on his career with an enormous sense of pride and achievement.
The Falkirk, Scotland native joined the Vikings from our Class of 2011 and quickly established himself as a leader in the team. During four brilliant years, Ross led his team to three NAIA National Tournament appearances and four MCC Championships.
Along the way, Ross was honoured as an NAIA All-American and Conference Player of the Year.
Ross now lives and works in Des Moines, Iowa and uses his Teaching Degree to work at one of the local schools in the city. He is also an assistant coach with the GVU Men’s Soccer Team and continues to lead by example in everything that he does.
