After a magnificent senior season between the posts at St. John’s University in New York, SFGK’s Scottish Goalkeeper, Lenny Wilson’s form was rewarded with an invitation to join the top 70 university players at the 2019 MLS Soccer Combine in Orlando, Florida.
Lenny is the first Scottish player to receive an invitation to showcase his talents at the MLS Combine event and he will be hoping to impress the watching scouts, managers and head coaches from every Major League Soccer club represented at the week long event, being held at the Orlando City Stadium.
The players will undergo medicals and performance testing before lining up to compete in the Combine matches.
Lenny is with Team Nemeziz and his side impressed yesterday (Saturday 5th January) with a fine 4-1 win over Team Copa.
Successful players will stand an opportunity of being selected in the MLS Draft, which will take place at the US Soccer Coach’s Convention next week in Chicago, Illinois.
If Lenny has managed to catch the eye then he will hope to be on the podium in Chicago wearing the team scarf of an MLS Team before beginning his professional career in the spring.
SFGK’s David Binnie was understandably very proud of his Sporting Future’s Protege and said:
“To say that I am proud of Lenny’s involvement in the 2019 MLS Combine is an understatement. I was thrilled when he let me know that his invitation had come through and I was happy to pass on some advice, which was mainly to make sure that he was relaxed and that he has to trust in his ability to shine.”
“I have absolutely no doubt that Lenny will impress watching programs and we are all positive about his chances of being in the MLS Draft next week in Chicago.”
“Regardless of the outcome of the MLS Combine, I believe Lenny has a big future ahead of him in the professional game and he know’s just how proud of him we all are back here in Scotland.”
